It’s been scorching hot in Knysna today – both in the Simola Hillclimb action and the sunny conditions.
With the last of the qualifying sessions completed, the top three contenders in each of the individual classes within the main categories has been decided. They will take on the Class Finals after the lunchtime break.
The qualifying results also determine the competitors that will make it to the all-or-nothing Top 10 Shootout for Road Cars and Supercars; Modified Saloon Cars; and Single Seaters, Sports Cars and Sports Prototypes.
Robert Wolk was back in action in Q6 with a time of 36.191 seconds – a full second off his fastest run so far as he finalises the setup of the Gould GR55.
Pieter Zeelie is keeping his new tyres for the Class Finals and Top 10 Shootout so didn’t go out for this session. Silvio Scribante posted his best qualifying performance in Q6 of 38.229 seconds, 1.1 seconds faster than Franco Scribante (39.333 sec), with Steve Clark 0.3 sec further adrift.
With Clint Weston sitting out Q6, Cristiano Verolini was the quickest of the Road Car and Supercar contenders with a time of 44.581 seconds in the BMW M4, around 1.6 sec off his best time. Jens Klingmann powered the new hybrid BMW M5 to his best run so far on 45.193 seconds.
