2024 Simola Hillclimb – Saturday Practice 2

It’s only the second practice session but the times are tumbling rapidly. Reghard Roets blasted his Nissan R35 GT-R to the top of the time sheets once again, coming within 0.7 sec of the Modified Saloon Car record on 38.850 seconds.

Dawie Joubert went around 1.7 seconds quicker to dip under the 40-sec barrier (39.775 sec), with brother Charl (Honda-powered 2005 Lotus Elise) going third-quickest in the Modified Saloon Cars class B (40.055 sec) – 0.6 sec quicker than Franco Scribante.

One of the crowd favourites, Martin van Zummeren, had a technical issue with his Nissan R34 GT-R when the engine died halfway up the 1.9 km Simola Hill, and the car is back in the pits so the team can try and diagnose the problem.

Silvio Scribante is competing with a specialised time-attack 2017 Audi RS3 which was imported from Sweden. He had a launch control issue in the first practice, followed by a misfire in P2.

Robert Wolk is progressively building up the speed in the Pillbeam MP58 with a time of 39.132 seconds to lead class C, with Rui Campos next up in the 1990 Shelby CanAm (42.800 sec).

JP van der Walt remains in a class of his own in the road-going class A, shaving a further 0.6 sec off his time in the Porsche 911 Turbo S (43.128 seconds).
