2024 Simola Hillclimb – Saturday Qualifying 2

Robert Wolk is ramping things up, slashing a massive 1.2 seconds from his opening qualifying run to end Q2 on 37.296 seconds to lead the session, well ahead of class B rivals Rui Campos (42.602 sec) and Ian Schofield (42.885 sec).

Dawie Joubert topped the class B times for Modified Saloon Cars for both qualifying sessions, going half a second quicker in Q2 (38.801 sec), a mere three hundredths of a second faster than brother Charl (38.837 sec).

Franco Scribante has stepped up his pace and was just a tenth slower (38.932 sec), while Reghard Roets hit a corner marker for the second consecutive run while battling oversteer, resulting in his time being deleted again. With the temperatures continuing to drop and looming rain, it seems the BB Motorsport GT-R is likely go into Sunday’s qualifying runs on the back foot, despite posting an impressive top speed of 241 km/h on the uphill straight.

Having posted an astonishing time in Q1, JP van der Walt elected to skip Q2. It remains an all-German manufacturer’s battle for the podium positions for the class A road cars, with Clint Weston going marginally quicker again in the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E (44.214 sec), once again ahead of the lighter but less powerful BMW M4 Competition (44.802 sec).
