2024 Simola Hillclimb – Saturday Qualifying 1

It’s qualifying time for King of the Hill at the 2024 Simola Hillclimb – with the first of six runs split between this afternoon and Sunday morning.

With the ambient and track temperatures dropping markedly after the lunchtime break, Reghard Roets posted the fastest opening qualifying run of 38.303 seconds, but his time was deleted after he clipped a series of corner markers. As a result, Dawie Joubert was credited with the top class B time of 39.286 seconds, followed by Charl Joubert (39.514 sec), Devin Robertson (39.957 sec) in the Nissan GT-R powered Lotus Exige and Franco Scribante on 40.288 seconds.

Robert Wolk went six-hundredths faster than his P4 time in the Pillbeam MP58 to set the best overall time on 38.509 seconds, with Ian Schofield taking second in class C (42.696 sec) after Rui Campos had his run delayed and set off on rapidly cooling tyres, posting the third-best time of 42.712 seconds.

JP van der Walt is well on his way to set a new road car record for class A in the Porsche 911 Turbo S, completing his first qualifying run in 42.706 seconds, ahead of Clint Weston in the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E-Performance (44.350 sec) and Cristiano Verolini in the BMW M4 Competition xDrive (45.022 sec).
